Hera: Retraining of a Star

Norns can be STUBBORN.

So I started out today just spending a little time with Lilac, verbally guiding her through the motions of satisfying her drives, until I was confident she was on the right path. Rishi seemed a little lonely, perhaps seeking company of her own kind. So I tabbed around to try and find the nearest creature, when I noticed Stella and Loorea were both sitting at some pretty high scores. This did not bode well, I decided. Both creatures seem to be starving, and both of them insisted, adamantly, that they were going to eat plant.

Considering the plants weren't satisfying their drives at all, I suggested they eat seed, but they seemed to be perfectly deaf to me. I decided some retraining was in order, beginning with Stella. Breaking my own "hands off" rule, I picked her up and took her to an area with less distractions, placed an acorn before her, and insisted she eat it. The following fight ensues, for the next, I kid you not, fifteen minutes-- trimmed and sped up for your sanity's sake:
Complaining about her hunger for starch all the while, she tries to eat me, door, grendel home, plant, and elevator before it finally occurs to her that this acorn might be delicious. Agh... I... am so tired right now.

  1. Does Stella have CFE descent/is a CFE? That sort of behavior usually only crops up in the default creatures. Regardless, I'm certain a lot of people can sympathize with you there (I know I can).

Alternatively, it could be that C2toDS is, in fact, a Fisher Kingdom and therefore causing Stella (and possibly everyone else) to suffer from OHSS just like C2 norns.

    1. Oddly, Stella is an 11th-gen CFE-based instinctless norn. Really strange behavior, but I was getting the same sort of thing with Amina earlier (also CFE-based), and now I'm having to go through similar annoyances with Loorea (no idea what her genetic history is), which is really making me wonder if it's something in the water, so to speak.

  2. Wow, I can't say I've ever really had such troubles with C3 Norns. Eating is something that comes pretty naturally to them, although there has been the rare Norn (usually one per generation or so) that sits in one spot and complains about a hunger for starch. Strangely it's always starch...

I imagine being instinctless probably has a lot to do with it?

Also, love the random CAPS and the 'swearing' at the end :P

    1. It always is starch, isn't it? I wonder why that is.
I thought her being instinctless might have contributed to it, but I'm having a similar episode with Loorea, so that seem unlikely (unless Stella's instinctlessness caused her to pick up the bad habit and then teach it to Loorea, I really don't know).

Heh, my frustration might have come out a bit during the video. I am just in shock; I've never seen anything like this.

  3. Holy crap dude.

I guess the "brilliant mind" theory is out?

    1. I guess there's always a chance that acorn was poisoned and she knew better than all of us, but yeah, I somehow doubt that.

  4. I have seen this behavior in C3 norns before and it is highly annoying. The only way I was able to break it was exactly with the "rehabilitation" shown above.. that is moving them to an area with as few distractions as possible so they can focus on the task at hand.. and even then it's not always successful.

    1. I'm really hoping the retraining sticks (I do not want to go through that again). But I am still floored at the complete stubbornness of these creatures... even when I had her alone with nothing around her, she was loudly proclaiming her desire to eat plant. What got into her head, seriously?

    2. What if any edible plants are in C2toDS? It's possible she ate one and it gave her a really strong hunger for starch decrease. Instinctless Norns should still be more flexible than that though, right?

  5. Wow: I would be completely worn out and tired after this! Oh, Stella. I haven't spent enough one-on-one time with my C3/DS Norns to really see this behavior, although I know it exists. There really must be something in the water, like you said! Hopefully these Norns start to improve their survival skills. Good to see that little Rishi is doing decently well, though!

    1. At this rate, Rishi may be the little ray of hope for the future of this seed-hating tribe. I really hope she doesn't carry on her genetic-mother's habits, hah.
